The New Patient Experience & What to Expect at Smile Society Dentistry

All new patients, both young and old, are treated to the New Patient Experience at Smile Society Dentistry. You may be wondering what are you getting yourself into and what will happen during your introductory visit.

We’ve gone ahead and provided a breakdown of what to expect during your first visits with our expert team.

New Patient Experience (Adult):

Oral Inspection:
We’ll carefully examine your mouth, including your lips, gums, tongue, cheeks, throat, and palate, checking for any irregularities such as inflammation, discoloration, sores, or unusual lumps.

Dental Imaging (X-Rays):
We may take X-rays to explore areas hidden from view, like spaces between teeth, below the gumline, and the jawbone, to detect cavities, impacted teeth, bone loss, or other concerns.

3D Digital Scanning:
A scan will be used to track tooth wear, gum recession, and shifts in tooth positioning over time.

Gum Health Evaluation:
Our team will assess your gum health by measuring the depth of pockets between your teeth and gums, while also checking for signs of gum disease, such as gingivitis or periodontitis.

Tooth-by-Tooth Check:
Each tooth will be inspected for decay, cracks, wear, or other issues, along with an evaluation of any existing dental work, including fillings, crowns, or bridges.

Oral Care Tips:
We’ll offer personalized advice on brushing, flossing, and dietary habits to help you keep your oral health in top shape.

Oral Cancer Check:
A detailed screening will be conducted to spot early signs of oral cancer, involving a close look at your tongue, throat, gums, and other soft tissues for anything unusual.

Jaw and Bite Analysis:
We’ll evaluate your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and bite alignment, looking for problems like jaw clicking, discomfort, or trouble with mouth movement.

Findings and Next Steps:
After the exam, we’ll go over our observations, share oral health tips, and suggest any treatments or preventive steps needed moving forward.

New Patient Experience (Child):

Full Oral Inspection:
We’ll visually examine your child’s mouth, gums, tongue, palate, cheeks, and throat to spot any noticeable problems like cavities, plaque, discoloration, sores, or unusual tooth growth patterns.

Dental Imaging (X-Rays):
X-rays might be used to monitor the growth of baby and permanent teeth, check for cavities between teeth, evaluate jaw development, and uncover any hidden issues not seen during the visual check.

3D Digital Scanning:
A scan will be used to track tooth wear, gum recession, and shifts in tooth positioning over time.

Tooth Growth Review:
We’ll evaluate your child’s dental progress, looking at how primary and permanent teeth are emerging, their alignment, and any concerns like crowding, bite issues, or delays in eruption.

Gum Condition Check:
We’ll look for signs of gum disease, inflammation, or bleeding to gauge your child’s gum health, catching early problems to avoid bigger complications later.

Oral Hygiene Tips:
We’ll teach you and your child age-appropriate oral care habits, including brushing methods, flossing, and dietary advice to keep their mouth healthy.

Preventive Care Suggestions:
We’ll recommend protective steps like dental sealants, fluoride applications, or orthodontic assessments to safeguard your child’s oral health as they grow.
